Ti Rakau Narrative Assessment

Learner: Scarlett Q                Learning Coach: Talia Morgan        Date: 6th September 2016
Learning Area: iExperience - Ti Rakau
Learning Observed
Scarlett Q was keen to use the Ti Rakau again today. She mentioned that she had done it before last year with another learning coach but couldn’t remember much. Scarlett Q was very engaged and as she did each trick they slowly came back to her. She even extended herself by learning new, more difficult tricks such as flipping and switching with her partner.
Evidence of learning

Scarlett Q is learning to master the flip trick. Can she master this or the partner switch trick and show us?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Scarlett Q is developing her Capabilities in using ti Rakau. She was able to listen to the beat of the music and go along with it. She was trying all the moves and all the tricks, insisting on mastering them (Participating and Contributing). Scarlett Q was sharing the ti rakau with her peers, without being reminded (Relating to Others). She persevered when she wasn’t getting a trick, continuing to practice calmly (Managing Self).
Next Learning Steps
  • Master the flip trick
  • Practice with own Ti Rakau at home
  • Share learning with home

Narrative Assessment - Maths - 17 March 2016

Learner:  Scarlett            Learning Coach: Megan Croll             Date: 17 March 2016
Learning Area: Maths
Learning Observed
Today the Learners were learning to add two numbers together by finding the biggest number, then adding on the smallest number.  We tried to work out the problem by imaging the number in our head, then used a number line to check how many jumps we needed to do to find the sum.
Evidence of learning

Scarlett was able to identify the biggest number in the problem (6), then rewrite the problem by putting the biggest number first.   Scarlett then draw a number line to help solve the problem.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Scarlett is developing her Capabilities in Maths by learning this addition strategy.  She was able to work by herself and use equipment correctly to solve a problem (Managing Self and Thinking).  Scarlett is able to form most of her numbers correctly and understands number ordering up to 20 (Using Language, Symbols and Text).
Next Learning Steps
  • Practise this strategy with addition to 20, then extend to bigger numbers, e.g. 7+22=
  • Teach this strategy to another Learner
  • Write the number ‘3’ correctly
